Arsenal's Summer Strategy: Arteta's Contract Priority Amid Potential £100M Academy Sales

Arsenal's immediate focus is on securing their first Premier League title in 22 years and advancing in the Champions League, but the club is already planning a significant summer that could reshape their squad and leadership.

Manager Mikel Arteta, whose contract expires at the end of next season, is at the center of these plans. Despite the team's current success, discussions about his future have begun, with both the club and Arteta reportedly keen to extend their partnership. Talks are expected to resume after the season concludes, with Arteta seeking assurances about continued financial backing and an improved salary package. Currently earning £10 million annually plus bonuses, his deal could approach the levels of top European managers like Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone.

"Extending Arteta's deal is the priority," sources indicate, highlighting his unique influence at the club.

Financially, Arsenal aims to balance their books after last summer's £250 million spending spree. To fund new signings—targeting a versatile full-back, central midfielder, and left-winger—the club may sell several players. Notably, academy prospects Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri could be sold for a combined £100 million, as their sales would count as "pure profit" under Premier League financial rules. Both players have attracted interest from clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Premier League rivals.

Other potential departures include Gabriel Jesus, Ben White, and Gabriel Martinelli, though captain Martin Ødegaard is expected to stay despite entering the final two years of his contract. On the incoming side, Arsenal is monitoring Newcastle's Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon, while also considering moves for Celta Vigo's Óscar Mingueza and Atletico Madrid's Julián Álvarez. Additionally, the club plans to make Piero Hincapié's loan permanent for £45 million.

With Josh Kroenke and CEO Richard Garlick leading negotiations, Arsenal's summer promises to be a pivotal period, regardless of how this season ends. The decisions made could define the club's trajectory for years to come.
