Duggar Scion Isolated in Jail for Safety After Child Abuse Allegations

Joseph Duggar, a former star of the reality TV show 19 Kids and Counting, was held in solitary confinement for his own protection following his arrest on child molestation charges, according to jail records.

Duggar, 31, was arrested in Tontitown, Arkansas, on March 18 for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl during a 2020 family vacation in Florida. Jail records from the Washington County Sheriff's Office show he was immediately placed in administrative segregation. An officer cited "Duggar's social status and the media presence" surrounding the case as reasons for the protective measure in a March 19 report.

"I am placing Duggar on Administrative segregation in HC-4 for 7 days for his own safety," the officer wrote.

His isolation was extended and lasted until his extradition to Florida on March 27. During his 10 days in solitary, Duggar reportedly relied on his faith, emailing his sister-in-law Anna Duggar on March 21: "I am currently in solitary but they got me a bible, so i have been able to stay encouraged."

Duggar pleaded not guilty to charges of lewd and lascivious behavior involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor at a Florida court on March 30. He was released on a $600,000 bond with strict conditions, including no contact with the alleged victim and no unsupervised contact with any minors—a restriction that applies to his own four children with wife Kendra Duggar.

Both Joseph and Kendra also face four counts each of child endangerment and false imprisonment in a separate case; they have not yet entered pleas for these charges. Joseph's next court date in Arkansas is scheduled for April 29, with his first Florida arraignment set for April 20.

Since his release, Duggar has reunited with Kendra in their home state, his lawyer confirmed. The case has drawn reactions from other family members, with his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, stating they are "heartbroken" and focused on supporting Kendra and the children, while sister Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband expressed being "shocked and heartbroken" and condemned abuse.
