European Silver Medalist Auriana Lazraq-Khlass Provisionally Suspended Over Anti-Doping Whereabouts Violation

French heptathlon star Auriana Lazraq-Khlass is facing a major career setback after being provisionally suspended over an anti-doping whereabouts violation.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the suspension following a series of whereabouts failures by the 26-year-old athlete. Under the World Anti-Doping Code, elite competitors are strictly required to provide their daily locations to facilitate out-of-competition testing. Missing three drug tests or failing to submit accurate filing details within a 12-month period triggers an automatic rules violation.

If the charge is officially upheld following a hearing, Lazraq-Khlass could be sidelined with a two-year ban from the sport. This development casts a dark cloud over what has been a prominent year for the French competitor; she recently captured a silver medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome and went on to place 16th in the heptathlon on home soil at the Paris Olympic Games.

While the provisional suspension is active, Lazraq-Khlass is entirely barred from participating in any track and field competitions or related sporting activities. Her future in athletics now hinges on the final decision of a disciplinary hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.

Whereabouts failures continue to be a significant stumbling block for elite athletes navigating the rigorous demands of global anti-doping protocols. Lazraq-Khlass's predicament mirrors that of American sprinter and former 100m world champion Fred Kerley, who was also recently handed a two-year ban for identical infractions.
