Flawless Sinner Secures Historic 'Sunshine Double' to Turn Up the Heat on Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner has etched his name into the tennis history books by capturing the Miami Open title, completing a flawless "Sunshine Double" that will undoubtedly catch the attention of world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

The 24-year-old Italian dismissed Czech 21st seed Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in a rain-delayed final. The victory not only secured the Miami crown but also made Sinner the first male player to sweep both the Indian Wells and Miami hard-court tournaments without dropping a single set.

Sinner’s dominant run serves as a stark warning to Alcaraz. With the Spaniard crashing out in the third round of Miami, the world number two has slashed the gap at the top of the ATP rankings to just 1,190 points heading into the grueling European clay-court season.

By extending his streak to 34 consecutive sets won at Masters 1000 events, Sinner joins elite company. He now stands alongside legends Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as the only men to string together three consecutive titles at this tournament tier.

"It has been an incredible swing for me and I'm extremely happy with the work we did to be in this position," Sinner said following the win. "We had some good practice days before Indian Wells and seeing this kind of result makes me happy, as does the level we are trying to produce and the player we're trying to achieve."

Following earlier setbacks—including defeats to Djokovic at the Australian Open and Jakub Mensik in Doha—Sinner actively retooled his game, specifically targeting his serve. The Italian powerhouse fired a career-best 70 aces across his six Miami matches, surrendering a service game only once during the entire tournament.

That metronomic serving accuracy was on full display against Lehecka, where Sinner claimed a staggering 92% of his first-serve points. Even when facing immense pressure, such as a 0-40 deficit early in the opening set, his newly fortified service game provided the ultimate safety net to seal the historic triumph.
