Jonah Hill has broken his silence about a strange incident from three years ago when Kanye West publicly credited him with ending his antisemitic views. In a recent interview on "The Zane Lowe Show," the actor shared his complex feelings about being unexpectedly dragged into West's controversial narrative.
Hill, who is Jewish, described the moment as profoundly unsettling. West attempted to walk back years of hateful rhetoric by casually posting a picture of Hill from the film "21 Jump Street," suggesting the actor was the reason he no longer hated Jewish people.
"It sat with me in a seriously weird way," Hill admitted during the interview. "I've always respected Kanye as one of the greatest artists alive, but the antisemitic material he was putting out was brutal. I wasn't about to kick someone when they were down, but being used as some kind of redemption token felt strange."
The actor emphasized that while he appreciated West's artistic contributions, he never condoned the rapper's hateful statements. Hill's comments come as West has continued his turbulent relationship with public opinion—first backsliding into antisemitic rhetoric after 2023, then recently publishing a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal for his bigoted behavior over the past several years.
Hill's measured response highlights the uncomfortable position celebrities sometimes find themselves in when their identities become entangled in others' public controversies without their consent.
