MacIntyre Dominates Texas Open with Stellar 64, Takes Commanding Four-Shot Lead

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre delivered a masterclass performance at the Texas Open, carding a brilliant 64 to seize a four-stroke advantage at the tournament's midway point in San Antonio.

MacIntyre, currently ranked 11th in the world, showcased exceptional form with four birdies in his final five holes, finishing at 14-under par. His playing partner and Ryder Cup teammate, Sweden's Ludwig Aberg, trails closely at 10-under, setting the stage for an intriguing weekend duel.

The 29-year-old Scot started strong on the back nine, sinking an eight-foot eagle putt at the par-five 14th before adding birdies on the next two holes. His only setback came with a bogey at the 17th, but he quickly regrouped to finish with authority.

"I've been driving the ball nice," MacIntyre commented after his round. "I've got a new driver in the bag. Iron play today was exceptional I would say. I hit a pure wedge shot on 17, I thought it was absolutely dynamite there. Overall, just really solid."

MacIntyre's performance provides a significant confidence boost ahead of next week's Masters Tournament in Augusta, where he aims to build on his current momentum.

Aberg, who recorded four birdies and an eagle during his round, acknowledged the importance of positioning himself for victory.

"For me, golf is about putting yourself in situations where you can win tournaments," Aberg said. "I feel like I haven't really done that very well the last 12 months or so, but starting to see it now, which has been really nice."

Six-time PGA Tour winner Tony Finau sits one stroke behind Aberg at 9-under, joined by a group including Kevin Roy, Bud Cauley, and Thorbjørn Olesen. Finau, who needs a victory to secure a Masters invitation, finished his round with an eagle at the 18th.

"It was nice to make an eagle on the last," Finau remarked. "I hit a really good drive, pushed my second shot a little, got lucky, covered the water and was able to roll that one in. Sometimes those are the small little breaks that you need to be towards the top of the leaderboard."

Other notable scores include England's Tommy Fleetwood at 7-under, while American star Jordan Spieth sits at 2-under after two rounds.

With MacIntyre holding a substantial lead and several major contenders within striking distance, the weekend promises compelling drama at the Texas Open as players vie for position ahead of golf's first major championship of the season.
