Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo has officially confirmed the upcoming release of her highly anticipated third studio album, boldly titled You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love. The record, which serves as the follow-up to her massive 2023 smash hit Guts, is slated to drop on June 12 via Geffen Records.

Fans have been buzzing with speculation over the past few weeks after spotting mysterious pink teasers plastered across Los Angeles and London. Now, the secret is out. For this new era, Rodrigo is once again teaming up with her trusted producer and long-time collaborator Dan Nigro, the sonic architect who helped craft both Guts and her 2021 breakout debut, Sour.

While Rodrigo's earlier work heavily leaned into fiery teenage angst and pop-punk anthems, this next chapter promises a noticeable musical pivot. According to a recent feature in British Vogue, the new album represents the singer at her "most experimental," with the publication teasing one of the upcoming tracks as possessing a "smooth, trippy soft rock" sound.

Despite the sonic evolution, the poignant emotional core of Rodrigo's songwriting remains deeply intact. The Grammy-winning artist described the new project as a collection of "sad love songs," noting the inherent melancholy found in true romance.

"I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them," Rodrigo told the publication.

The singer also revealed that spending a significant amount of time in the UK deeply influenced the album's creative direction, injecting distinct local energy into her new music. However, shifting her songwriting perspective away from heartbreak to a more positive headspace proved to be an unexpected hurdle.

"I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London," she explained. "I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here."

"It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!"
