Royals in Washington: King Charles Sets April State Visit With Trump, Skips Harry Reunion

Buckingham Palace has officially confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to the United States for a state visit this late April, featuring a highly anticipated meeting with President Donald Trump.

However, the monarch is not expected to use the transatlantic journey to reunite with his California-based son, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

The diplomatic tour, conducted on behalf of the UK government, had been expected for some time. Official confirmation was reportedly paused as officials waited for a de-escalation of political friction surrounding the Iran war.

While the Palace's statement only specified "late April" for the trip, President Trump eagerly took to social media to announce the precise dates as April 27 to 30. The president revealed he and First Lady Melania Trump will host a "beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House" on April 28, declaring his excitement to spend time with the King, whom he says he "greatly respect[s]."

The upcoming journey will mark the first official UK state visit to the US since Queen Elizabeth II's historic trip in 2007. The King's itinerary will heavily feature Washington, D.C., and is expected to include an address to Congress, followed by a brief detour to Bermuda on his return flight.

Given a tightly packed schedule of official engagements concentrated on the East Coast, sources indicate a rendezvous with Prince Harry is highly unlikely.

The visit coincides with the recent arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, sparking calls from US Congressman Ro Khanna and the family of the late Virginia Giuffre for the King to meet with survivors of Jeffrey Epstein.

"We strongly urge King Charles to meet with us and survivors and hear what we have to say,"

said Sky and Amanda Roberts, Giuffre's brother and sister-in-law. They noted that the monarch's arrival falls exactly two days after the anniversary of Giuffre's passing, expressing hope that a dialogue could compel the British government into "decisive action against the co-conspirators of Jeffrey Epstein."

Despite these impassioned pleas, it is understood that the King will not accommodate such a meeting due to the risk of interfering with active police investigations and legal proceedings. Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently maintained his innocence regarding his association with Epstein.

Centered around the 250th anniversary of American independence, the diplomatic mission aims to celebrate "the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship" between the two nations.

The Palace's announcement arrived shortly after President Trump fired a verbal volley at the UK and its allies over the Iran conflict, telling them to secure their own oil from the Strait of Hormuz without American assistance.

Rumors of a royal return trip have simmered since last September, when Trump visited Windsor Castle. Following that encounter, the US President praised the monarch, calling him "fantastic" and expressing his eagerness to host a reciprocal state banquet.

Despite Trump's clear affinity for the British Royal Family, the broader political landscape remains bumpy. The US leader recently drew ire by claiming UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is "no Winston Churchill," and previously provoked British veterans by minimizing the UK's military contributions in Afghanistan.

These diplomatic spats triggered calls from figures like Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey to cancel the April visit entirely. A recent YouGov poll indicated that 49% of the British public opposed the trip, compared to just 33% who wanted it to proceed.

Nevertheless, behind-the-scenes preparations pressed forward. Directed by the Foreign Office, the UK government appears determined to leverage the King's state visit—and Trump's well-documented fascination with the monarchy—as a strategic opportunity to mend diplomatic rifts and reinforce the transatlantic alliance.
