Ryan Reynolds Drops $25,000 on Broadway Prop During Rare Family Night Out With Blake Lively

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively recently treated three of their four children to a special night out on Broadway, walking away with a little more than just playbills.

On March 29, the Hollywood power couple attended the final performance of Jonathan Groff’s Just in Time at New York City's Circle in the Square Theatre. Accompanied by their daughters—James, 11, Inez, 9, and Betty, 6—the family watched from the audience as Groff took his final bow portraying legendary singer Bobby Darin.

The evening took an exciting and philanthropic turn when Reynolds participated in a post-show charity auction. The Deadpool star successfully bid $25,000 to win the iconic hat Groff wore during the performance. All proceeds from the auction benefited the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS initiative. Following the winning bid, Groff personally hand-delivered the hat to Reynolds, who promptly and playfully placed the expensive souvenir on his daughter's head.

The New York theater trip comes on the heels of the family's recent getaway to the United Kingdom. Just a day prior, Lively shared a rare glimpse into their personal lives on social media, posting a photo carousel that featured one of their children catching a ride on Reynolds' shoulders. The It Ends With Us actress expressed her gratitude for the trip, specifically highlighting the family's unforgettable time at the Wrexham AFC home stadium—the Welsh soccer club famously co-owned by her husband.

While the couple notoriously keeps their children out of the public eye, Reynolds hasn't shied away from sharing his candid, humorous take on fatherhood. Speaking at the Wall Street Journal's CMO Summit late last year, the actor opened up about embracing a modern approach to raising kids.

"Soft parenting is new, right? I didn't have that," Reynolds explained. "There's not a lot of yelling or punishments or anything like that."

Despite the gentle approach, Reynolds couldn't help but add his trademark wit to the reality of raising four young children (including their 3-year-old son, Olin, who sat out the Broadway trip).

"I think my kids feel safe," he joked. "Are they still, like, spawns of Satan? Yes. Am I calling myself the Satan this moment? Yes. But they are. They are still kids."
