Professional cornhole player Dayton James Webber, a quadruple amputee accused of a chilling cross-state murder, is gearing up to fight his charges with a self-defense strategy.

During a tense bond hearing in Maryland on Wednesday, Webber's legal team laid out their narrative, framing the fatal shooting of Bradrick Michael Wells as a desperate fight for survival. Defense attorneys argued that the tragedy was a "clear-cut case of self-defense," insisting that Webber was "terrified of being killed" and made a split-second decision to pull the trigger to save his own life.

Authorities allege a much darker sequence of events. According to investigators, Webber shot Wells inside a Tesla while two other passengers were sitting in the backseat. Following the bloodshed, Webber is accused of dumping the victim's body and fleeing across state lines into Virginia.

The courtroom proceedings also shed light on a troubled history between the two men. Prosecutors and defense lawyers both pointed to a prior confrontation in 2024, during which Webber allegedly ordered Wells off his property and discharged a firearm. While prosecutors claim Webber fired in the victim's direction during that encounter, the defense maintains it was merely a warning shot fired into the air.

Despite the defense's passionate plea that the fatal shooting was born of absolute necessity, the presiding judge remained unswayed regarding Webber's release. Citing the fact that Webber fled the Maryland crime scene and was ultimately apprehended in a different state, the judge officially denied his bond, cementing his status as a flight risk.
