Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his conviction in the backing he receives from the club's leadership and fans, despite mounting pressure following a string of disappointing results.
Slot, who took over from Jürgen Klopp in the summer of 2024, guided the Reds to a Premier League title in his debut season. However, the current campaign has presented significant challenges. The team sits fifth in the table, with European qualification for next season now in jeopardy after securing just one point from their last three league matches.
The recent setbacks include a heavy 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester City and a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The performance in Paris was particularly concerning, with Liverpool managing only 26% possession and three shots on goal.
This dip in form has sparked external debate about Slot's future. Former defender Stephen Warnock noted that "confidence seems to be at rock bottom," while journalist Julien Laurens has questioned whether Slot will remain in charge next season.
Despite the scrutiny, Slot remains steadfast. He highlighted the continued support from the club's hierarchy, including sporting director Richard Hughes and CEO of Football Michael Edwards, and praised the unwavering loyalty of the Anfield faithful.
"I'm saying this often, but I feel tremendous support. Not just from the owners, but from Richard and Michael. And, perhaps surprisingly to some, I feel that same support from our supporters," Slot stated. "Even after the heavy loss to City, and during the warm-up in Paris when we were being outplayed, the fans were singing for us. That speaks volumes. The club understands the phase we're in, and I feel their complete backing."
Slot acknowledged that the defeat to PSG was a tough lesson but framed it as motivation for the crucial final stretch of the season, which begins with a Premier League clash against Fulham at Anfield this weekend. He emphasized the importance of this "defining period" for his squad as they look to rally and secure their objectives.
