Dr. Samira Mohan's shift is officially coming to an end. Actress Supriya Ganesh is departing the hit HBO Max medical drama The Pitt following a successful two-season run. Fans can expect to see her final performance in the season two finale, scheduled to air on April 16.

The exit is reportedly a natural progression for the series. According to industry insiders, Ganesh’s departure is a strictly "story-driven decision." Because her character is a senior resident at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center—a working teaching hospital—moving on to a new residency program at a different facility aligns with the realistic career trajectory of a medical professional in training.

While one doctor is packing up her locker, another is getting a major promotion. Ayesha Harris, who plays night resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been officially bumped up to a series regular. Harris took to social media on April 2 to celebrate the career milestone and bid a fond farewell to her departing costar.

"Dr. ELLIS got student loans to pay off, we gotta work a double shift! Lol. Been wanting to share this for a while now. To my girl @supriyaganesh_ thank you for being a real one, from day one! Cheers to season 3! LFG baby!"

For Ganesh, leaving The Pitt is the culmination of a deeply personal role, especially since she was studying to become a real-life physician before pivoting to acting. Ahead of the second season, she reflected on how much Dr. Mohan had evolved, noting that the character had grown significantly more confident and comfortable navigating the chaotic ER environment.

Viewers will have to tune into the finale to see how the writers wrap up Mohan’s storyline, particularly her simmering slow-burn romance with Dr. Jack Abbot (played by Shawn Hatosy). Ganesh previously hinted at an intriguing dynamic between the two colleagues, rooted in Abbot's deep respect and belief in her abilities.

This isn't the first time the hit medical series has bid farewell to a key player. Ganesh's exit follows the departure of Tracy Ifeachor, who portrayed Dr. Heather Collins during the show's foundational first season before bowing out.
