Defending champions Dungannon Swifts are gearing up for a fiercely contested Irish Cup semi-final against Cliftonville this Friday at Windsor Park. Manager Rodney McAree is under no illusions about the magnitude of the task, admitting that advancing past the Reds will be an uphill battle.

The highly anticipated clash is a direct rematch of last year's dramatic final, where the Swifts triumphed on penalties to secure their first-ever Irish Cup. The victor of Friday's showdown will go on to face either Larne or Coleraine for the ultimate prize.

While McAree acknowledges the steep challenge of retaining the trophy, he is urging his squad to channel the magic of their previous cup run to keep the supporters dreaming.

"If you don't win a semi-final you don't have those memories [of winning a final]," McAree stated. "We are as strong as we can be and we know whoever gets to the final from our semi-final is going to have a real big task in terms of winning the cup this season. There are four really good teams left."

The Dungannon boss emphasized the profound impact of last year's historic triumph on the club's morale, noting that the team remains entirely focused on overcoming Cliftonville to keep their back-to-back title dreams alive.

On the other side of the pitch, Cliftonville manager Jim Magilton is looking to guide his squad to a third consecutive Irish Cup final. The 2024 tournament winners currently sit in sixth place in the Irish Premiership, trailing the Swifts by just a single point—setting the stage for a remarkably tight contest between two evenly matched sides.

"It's two sides that will go into the game full of great intentions to get to another final," the former Northern Ireland international observed. "We know and respect what Dungannon can bring to the game, they have many, many strengths and we've got to withstand that and we have to come out with the strength our team have."
