A Texas man is now confronting federal charges after allegedly traveling to California with the intent to harm OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, according to court documents unsealed this week.

Daniel Moreno-Gama was arrested on April 10th following what authorities describe as a coordinated attack on both Altman's private residence and OpenAI's corporate headquarters. Prosecutors allege Moreno-Gama threw a Molotov cocktail at the CEO's home before proceeding to the company's offices, where he attempted to break through glass doors using a chair.

At the headquarters, Moreno-Gama reportedly stated he had come to 'burn down the building,' according to charging documents filed by federal prosecutors.

Investigators recovered a handwritten document titled 'Your Last Warning' during their investigation, in which Moreno-Gama allegedly admitted to attempting to kill Altman. The document's contents have not been fully disclosed, but authorities indicate it provides insight into the suspect's motivations.

The case has been elevated to federal jurisdiction due to the interstate nature of the alleged crimes—Moreno-Gama traveled from Texas to California specifically to carry out the attacks. Federal charges typically carry more severe penalties than state-level offenses.

OpenAI has not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and representatives for Sam Altman have declined to comment on ongoing legal proceedings. The company's security protocols are now under review following the breach attempt at their headquarters.

Moreno-Gama remains in custody pending further court proceedings. His federal court appearance is scheduled for later this month, where formal charges will be presented and bail considerations addressed.

The incident highlights growing concerns about security for high-profile technology executives as artificial intelligence companies face increasing public scrutiny and controversy surrounding their rapidly advancing technologies.
