Wales' Lleucu George Poised to Ignite Attack in Women's Six Nations Opener

Fly-half Lleucu George is determined to inject fresh energy into Wales' offensive strategy as they prepare to launch their Women's Six Nations campaign against Scotland this Saturday.

At 26, George has been a standout performer for Gloucester-Hartpury, the reigning and undefeated Premiership Women's Rugby champions. While many of her Welsh teammates have faced limited playing time or competed in the Celtic Challenge, George has benefited from consistent opportunities on the field.

"I'm fortunate that the coaches at Gloucester have shown faith in me by selecting me for most matches," George remarked. "Regular game time exposes you to various situations and different tactical scenarios each weekend, which is invaluable when transitioning into international camp."

Wales, under head coach Sean Lynn, will face Scotland at Principality Stadium (16:40 BST) aiming to avoid a third consecutive wooden spoon finish. The team has been working with interim attack coach Ashley Beck, formerly of the Ospreys, who recently guided Brython Thunder to the Celtic Challenge play-offs.

"Entering camp feels like a completely fresh start—it's almost about stripping things back and rebuilding from the ground up," George explained. "Our goal is to increase ball possession and allow our backline to express itself more freely, something we've struggled with in recent tournaments. We have powerful, quick players, and with our new tactical approach, getting the ball to them is the priority."

This match carries added significance after Scotland dominated Wales 38-8 in their World Cup encounter last summer, extending Wales' winless streak against their Celtic rivals to over three years. However, George emphasizes that the focus remains on Wales' own performance.

"Regardless of the opponent in the opening week, we want to make a strong statement," she said. "It's a new beginning with new coaches and a different playing style. Scotland also have new coaching staff, so there's uncertainty about their approach. While we'll study them somewhat, our primary concentration is on ourselves and executing our game plan."

As Lynn completes his first year at the helm, George's form and leadership could be pivotal in sparking a revitalized Welsh attack as they seek to turn the page on recent disappointments.
