Zendaya Reveals Her Marriage Philosophy as Tom Holland Wedding Rumors Swirl
Content warnin g: Spoilers for T he Drama ahead as well as discussio ns of violence and drugs.
What exactly happened in The Drama?
Because if you’ve seen Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s new dark comedy, you know the plot spirals—quickly. Just days before her wedding, Emma (Zendaya) makes a major revelation to her groom Charlie (Robert) and their friends Mike (Mamoudou Athie) and Rachel (Alana Haim).
After a debate about their heroin-smoking DJ, Rachel suggests the group share the worst thing they’ve ever done—something she and Mike also did right before their wedding day.
When it’s Emma’s turn, she admits she planned a school shooting when she was 15 but did not follow through with it. The revelation unravels the evening—and perhaps her relationship with Charlie. He is stunned and unable to comprehend what Emma has shared.
Still, the wedding must go on. With just days to go, the movie follows Charlie on an emotional journey as he struggles with the information. Meanwhile, Emma worries he will call off their happily ever after because of what she revealed.
Later, Charlie confides in his coworker, Misha (Hailey Gates) and asks her what she would do in a similar, hypothetical scenario. When she says she’d call the police, Charlie loses his composure—which somehow leads to them kissing.
And though Emma and Charlie ultimately appear to stay together by the end—despite lots of chaos during their big day—it’s still up for interpretation of what to make of the film, even to those who made it.
“However you react is valid,” the film’s writer-director Kristoffer Borglisaid ahead of a screening of the film April 2, per Gold Derby. “It’s like what you want to react, how you feel, it’s all OK. You’re probably right. You decide what it is for you. You can laugh, you can cry.”

He joked, “You can leave the theater if you want to.”
Meanwhile, stars Zendaya and Robert emphasized ahead of the film’s premiere that it should “not at all” be digested as a rom-com.
“There are aspects of romance,” Zendaya explained during an April 1 appearance on The Tonight Show, before clarifying, “I think you’re just on this really emotionally vulnerable ride. It’s all gas until the end.”
Despite the heavy themes, Zendaya said of her desired takeaway for the film, “Hopefully it’ll spark a lot of healthy discussion.”
And Shake It Up alum is also hoping the plot twist remains a surprise for moviegoers.

“Everybody has their own feelings leaving the theater," Zendaya said on Jimmy Kimmel Live March 16, "especially with the big twist and there’s so many conversations that are had after you watch it. I really hope that people don’t spoil it for each other so they’re allowed to go into it just unknowing and really experience the drama.”
Robert, for his part, shared his take about what you should know about a partner before committing to them á la Charlie and Emma’s dilemma.
“I think if you’re expecting chaos and surprises, you’ll probably be happier in the long run,” he said on the April 1 episode of the New York Times' Modern Love podcast. “I think you kind of suffocate a relationship if you’re saying, ‘I need to know everything about your past.’ The past has nothing to do with you.”
The Drama is in theaters now, but it’s not the only film in 2026 to add to your watch list. Keep reading for more…
