Actor Tyrin Turner Mourns Sudden Loss of Childhood Friend and MLB Legend Garret Anderson

Actor Tyrin Turner, best known for his role in "Menace II Society," is grappling with the sudden and unexpected death of his lifelong friend, former MLB star Garret Anderson. Turner exclusively shared his shock and grief with TMZ Sports, revealing he was unaware of any prior health issues concerning the baseball legend.

"It came out of left field for his loved ones," Turner said, emphasizing the tragedy's unforeseen nature. "As far as I knew, he wasn't dealing with any medical issues."

The two grew up together in Los Angeles, with Turner recalling he recognized Anderson's exceptional talent on the diamond from a very young age. Their bond remained unbreakable for decades, so much so that Anderson served as Turner's best man at his wedding.

Turner noted a poignant detail that, in hindsight, felt unusual: when his own mother passed away earlier this year, Anderson did not attend the funeral, which Turner described as "not like him." The actor shared that in recent times, they often joked about aging but consistently encouraged each other to stay active and healthy.

Garret Anderson, a World Series champion and iconic figure for the Los Angeles Angels, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 53. An official cause of death has not yet been released.

Plans for a celebration of life are forthcoming, though Turner indicated arrangements are not yet finalized as family members travel to Los Angeles. The baseball community has begun paying tribute, with current Angels superstar Mike Trout stating, "Garret Anderson was a huge part of Angels history and inspired so many of us who wear this uniform." Former teammate Tim Salmon also honored Anderson, calling him a "brother in Christ."
