At Google Cloud Next '26, the narrative around artificial intelligence has shifted from experimentation to real-world production, according to TELUS Digital's Infrastructure Ambassador Stacy Véronneau. Speaking from his fifth appearance at the conference, Véronneau emphasized that the era of “playtime” with AI agents is over, replaced by a focus on deploying them in live environments.

“The energy is different this year,” he said. “We’re no longer just toying with agents and MCP servers; now it’s about putting them into production.” This maturation brings new challenges, particularly around security and governance. As AI agents take on critical tasks, responsible deployment demands robust guardrails.

To support this transition, Google unveiled its purpose-built TPU V8i and V8t chips, designed to handle the intensive workloads of training and inference at scale. Additionally, the graduation of Gemini Enterprise marks a milestone, offering a unified interface for building complex AI workflows.

Google Cloud Next '26 signals that AI has officially grown up, with a clear priority on reliable, secure, and scalable production systems.
