Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the landscape of data analytics, offering unprecedented speed and insights. However, a critical question looms: can businesses trust AI-driven results? This was the central theme of the latest episode of the "Utilizing AI" podcast, recorded live at Qlik Connect.
Host Stephen Foskett, President of Tech Field Day, led a discussion with Frederic Van Haren, CTO and Founder of HighFens, and Sidney Drill, Global Solutions Director for Data, Analytics, and AI at Qlik. The panel explored the tension between AI's analytical power and the need for reliable, explainable outputs.
Van Haren emphasized that while AI models can process vast datasets and identify patterns humans might miss, their 'black box' nature often raises red flags for decision-makers. "The technology is incredible, but if you can't understand why an AI made a recommendation, you're unlikely to act on it," he said.
Drill countered that modern AI tools are increasingly incorporating transparency features, such as natural language explanations and confidence scores. "Trust isn't just about accuracy; it's about the user's ability to question and verify results," she noted.
The conversation also touched on real-world applications where AI analytics have already proven valuable, from supply chain optimization to customer sentiment analysis. Yet, the panel agreed that widespread adoption hinges on building robust governance frameworks and fostering a culture of critical evaluation.
Foskett summed up the challenge: "AI can transform data analytics, but trust must be earned through transparency, testing, and human oversight."
