Carlos Alcaraz's quest for a third consecutive French Open title has been derailed by a wrist injury, forcing him to withdraw from Roland Garros.
The Spanish star, who lost his world number one ranking to Jannik Sinner after losing the Monte Carlo final, will now miss the clay-court Grand Slam. The injury, sustained during practice, has sidelined him indefinitely.
"It's a tough blow, but I have to listen to my body," Alcaraz said in a statement.
Alcaraz's absence opens the door for other contenders, including Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, to vie for the title.
