Arizona Teacher Faces Termination Over Alleged Inappropriate Relationship with Student

A high school teacher in Arizona has been recommended for termination following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to school district officials.

Haley Beck, a 27-year-old psychology and sociology teacher at Centennial High School in the Peoria Unified School District, is accused of grooming a student before he turned 18. The district's internal investigation found evidence of a "quid pro quo" relationship that began raising concerns in December 2024 when she allowed the student to borrow her car keys to retrieve Christmas presents from her vehicle.

"Since grooming did occur, any sexual conduct after the date of consent is unwelcome," the Title IX Decision Maker wrote in school documents. "Within the teacher-student relationship, the behavior is also severe, pervasive and objectively offensive."

According to the district's statement of charges, Beck allegedly provided the student with food, special treatment in class, grade improvements, and even completed his homework assignments. Investigators documented more than 4,000 text messages exchanged between them during the summer of 2025, including discussions about sexual activities, alcohol, and marijuana use.

The documents further allege that Beck sent the student $630 through Apple Pay, with one transaction reportedly captioned, "This money exchange just felt like straight prostitution." She is also accused of referring to herself as a "Sugar Momma" and the student as a "Sugar Baby" in their communications.

School officials said the governing board adopted a statement of charges to fire Beck on March 26 after the superintendent recommended dismissal. The matter is now pending before the State Board of Education.

Beck's attorney, Matthew Long, maintains his client's innocence, stating, "Ms. Beck respects the criminal justice process and looks forward to the conclusion of the investigation, which will reveal she committed no crimes. We are confident that a complete review of the facts will confirm her innocence."

Police have forwarded their findings to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office to determine whether criminal charges are warranted. The Peoria Unified School District emphasized its commitment to student safety in a statement, saying, "We encourage students, families, and staff to speak up about concerns so they can be quickly addressed. Our ongoing commitment is to be transparent, accountable, and to ensure every student feels safe and supported."
