Southeast Asian nations have concluded negotiations on a landmark agreement aimed at unlocking the region's $2 trillion digital economy. The pact, finalized after years of talks, is expected to boost cross-border data flows, enhance cybersecurity cooperation, and reduce barriers to digital trade among the 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Leaders emphasized that the framework will foster innovation and attract investment in digital infrastructure, while ensuring equitable access for small and medium enterprises. The agreement now awaits ratification by individual countries before taking effect.
"This is a historic step toward a seamless digital market," said an ASEAN official. "It will empower businesses and consumers alike."
The move comes amid growing digital transformation across the region, with e-commerce, fintech, and cloud services driving economic growth.
