The Ateneo Blue Eagles have named veteran coach Louie Alas as their interim head coach, tasked with steering the team through the upcoming season. The announcement comes as the program navigates a transitional period following the departure of previous head coach Tab Baldwin, who stepped down earlier this year.
Alas brings decades of experience, having previously coached in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the NCAA. He is known for his disciplined approach and ability to develop young talent. Ateneo athletic director Emmanuel Fernandez expressed confidence in Alas's leadership, stating, "Coach Louie's track record speaks for itself. We believe he is the right person to guide our student-athletes on and off the court."
The Blue Eagles will aim to rebuild under Alas's guidance, focusing on fundamentals and team chemistry. Players have reportedly welcomed the appointment, citing his reputation as a mentor who prioritizes player growth.
Alas is expected to officially assume duties immediately, with the team's first game under his tenure slated for next month.
