The 22-year-old Auburn University graduate allegedly killed by her boyfriend's father died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Jefferson County Coroner and Medical Examiner's Office.

Whitney Robeson's official cause of death is listed as "injury to left lung, heart, and aorta, due to gunshot wound of chest." The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Jeffrey Scott Towers, the father of Robeson's boyfriend, was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Monday, two months after the March 7 incident. Police have described the shooting as accidental but have not released further details.

Robeson earned a degree in interior design from Auburn in May 2025 and had recently started working as a trade consultant for Restoration Hardware, according to her obituary. Towers was released from jail after posting a $30,000 bond.
