Beran A, an Austrian national, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiring in an Islamist-inspired attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, as well as other planned attacks abroad. The 19-year-old admitted to planning the attack, which was foiled by authorities before it could be carried out.
According to prosecutors, Beran A had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and had been in contact with other ISIL supporters. He confessed to plotting to use knives and homemade explosives to target fans gathering outside the Ernst Happel Stadium ahead of Swift's scheduled concert in August.
The suspect also acknowledged involvement in planning attacks in other countries, though details of those plots remain undisclosed. The case underscores the persistent threat of ISIL-inspired terrorism in Europe.
