In a scene straight out of a celebrity drama, former couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey found themselves in an unexpected and awkward reunion aboard a recent flight to Hawaii.
According to sources familiar with the situation, both Simpson and Lachey were traveling in first class on a March 29 flight from Los Angeles to Kauai. Despite their close proximity, the exes reportedly went to great lengths to avoid any interaction throughout the journey.
"Nick turned bright red when he realized Jessica was on board," one source on the plane revealed. "From that moment on, there was zero interaction between them."
Simpson, who was traveling with a group, made her intentions clear by switching seats with someone in her party to ensure she wouldn't be seated near Lachey. Adding another layer to the situation, Simpson's estranged husband, Eric Johnson, was also on the flight—though he was seated in coach while she remained in first class. Lachey's wife, Vanessa Lachey, was reportedly on board as well.
The encounter marks a notable moment for the former couple, whose relationship captivated audiences in the early 2000s. Simpson and Lachey began dating in 1999, married in 2002, and starred in their hit reality series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" before divorcing in 2006.
Simpson later moved on with Johnson, becoming engaged in 2010 and marrying in 2014. The couple shares three children together.
Representatives for both Simpson and Lachey have not yet responded to requests for comment about the in-flight encounter.
