The decision, announced by the country's interior ministry, targets individuals alleged to have ties to Iranian-backed groups, including the Shiite opposition. Rights groups argue that the mass revocation is a tool to silence dissent and target minority communities.
Those affected include political activists, religious figures, and their family members. The government claims the measure is necessary for national security, but critics say it violates international law and leaves individuals stateless.
Bahrain, a close ally of Saudi Arabia and the United States, has a history of cracking down on opposition voices. Iran denies any involvement in Bahraini internal affairs.
