Barcelona Joins Transfer Race for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon

Barcelona have entered the contest to sign Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, adding to interest from Bayern Munich. The La Liga champions are in discussions with Newcastle over a potential deal for the England international.

Despite recent financial constraints, Barcelona are reportedly prepared to spend whatever they raise from player sales. Bayern Munich have also held formal talks with Newcastle, though a gap in valuation remains between the two clubs.

Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson stated in March that the club will only sell players on "our terms." The Magpies are in a strong negotiating position, demanding a minimum of £70 million for Gordon, whose contract runs until 2030.

Newcastle need to offload players to rebuild after a disappointing 12th-place Premier League finish. Gordon, the club's top scorer with 17 goals this season, is the most likely key player to depart. He was left on the bench for the final four games as head coach Eddie Howe planned for the future.

Fans sang Gordon's name during the 2-0 defeat at Fulham on the final day, a moment that felt like a farewell. When asked if Gordon had played his last game for Newcastle, Howe replied, "I don't know. You can never predict what's going to happen. He goes to the World Cup now, so we wish him well."

Barcelona also hold interest in Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez and Chelsea striker Joao Pedro, while they have the option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently for £26 million after his loan from Manchester United.
