At Gen Con 2026, White Wolf made waves with the announcement of Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition. However, the tabletop RPG publisher also used the event to pull back the curtain on its broader roadmap for the World of Darkness universe, revealing plans to resurrect several beloved, long-dormant titles.
Speaking during the "Future of White Wolf" panel, World of Darkness creative director Jess Lanzillo shared that new editions are actively in the pipeline for Mage: The Ascension, Changeling: The Dreaming, and Vampire: The Dark Ages. While deep mechanical details remain under wraps, Lanzillo confirmed that these upcoming iterations will utilize the foundational systems being introduced in the upcoming 6th Edition of Vampire: The Masquerade.
Each of these games explores a distinct supernatural faction within the shared World of Darkness setting. Mage: The Ascension focuses on reality-bending spellcasters, Changeling: The Dreaming delves into the lives of fae souls inhabiting human hosts, and Vampire: The Dark Ages transports players back to the medieval era of vampiric clans. Unlike modern Vampire releases, these specific titles haven't seen fresh editions in quite some time.
Addressing why these deep cuts were handpicked for revival, Lanzillo credited the passion of her tight-knit development team. "The coolest thing about this studio being so small is that these are the things I want to do," she explained to the Gen Con audience. Emphasizing that these are some of her favorite games in the world, she noted that the publisher's lineup "needs them."
Fans of other popular World of Darkness properties, such as Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Hunter: The Reckoning, shouldn't worry about being left behind. Lanzillo clarified that because both of those games currently enjoy robust support for their 5th Editions, the studio is choosing to prioritize franchises that have been historically underserved. Meanwhile, the fate of other niche classics like Wraith: The Oblivion, Mummy: The Resurrection, and Demon: The Fallen remains unconfirmed.
Although a firm release date for Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition has not yet been locked in, the studio intends to establish a highly consistent publishing rhythm moving forward. According to Lanzillo, the long-term goal is to release one new core rulebook every year, ensuring tabletop fans have a steady stream of World of Darkness content on the horizon.
