A fire broke out in a residential area of Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila on Tuesday, destroying several houses but leaving no reported casualties.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at around 2:30 p.m. and quickly spread due to the dense concentration of lightweight structures. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 4:15 p.m., bringing it under control after nearly two hours of operation.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, which displaced around 50 families. The Manila City government has provided temporary shelter and assistance to affected residents.
Local officials reminded the public to practice fire safety, especially in informal settlements where houses are built close together.
