Deadly Shooting Rocks Seattle's Iconic Space Needle Area
A tragic and senseless act of violence unfolded at a popular food festival near the Space Needle in Seattle, leaving three people dead and several others injured. The devastating incident occurred on Sunday, shattering the joyful atmosphere of the annual Bite of Seattle food festival.
According to police reports, two suspects were involved in the shooting, with one currently in custody and the other still at large. Although officials have assured the public that there is no immediate threat, the community remains in shock and grief.
Eyewitness Accounts of Chaos and Panic
As shots rang out at around 6:00 pm local time, people scrambled for safety, taking shelter inside the Space Needle and nearby buildings. One eyewitness, Faith Adia Hunter, recounted the harrowing experience of being near one of the shooters when the gunfire started. Hunter and her friends fled to the nearby Seattle Children's Museum, seeking refuge from the hail of bullets.

Videos shared on social media showed people crouching on the ground, taking cover behind pillars and merchandise shelves in the Space Needle's lobby. The scene was described as "pure chaos" by one attendee, with many others left shaken and traumatized by the event.
Community Leaders Condemn the Violence
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and Washington Governor Bob Ferguson have strongly condemned the shooting, calling it an act of "senseless violence" and "horrific violence." Mayor Wilson praised the Seattle police officers who responded to the scene and took a suspect into custody, while Governor Ferguson offered his prayers to the families of the victims and the responders working to keep people safe.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, representing Seattle, also expressed her condolences, stating that the community's hearts go out to all those impacted by the senseless violence. The US flag on top of the Space Needle was lowered to half-mast in respect for the victims.
