Blossoms have burst back onto the music scene with their vibrant new single, 'Joke About Divorce,' signaling the start of a new creative era for the acclaimed Stockport band. This track marks their first original release since the expanded edition of their 2024 album, 'Gary,' which secured their fourth UK Number One album.
Produced by Shawn Lee and released through ODD SK Recordings and Distiller Music, 'Joke About Divorce' is described as a spritely and energetic indie pop anthem. Frontman Tom Ogden delivers lyrics that capture a moment of misplaced humor during a relationship argument, singing:
"I guess this argument's not the place for a joke about divorce / My intentions are just a playful thing to make you laugh of course."
Ogden shared the inspiration behind the song, explaining, "During every argument, no matter how big or small, there's always that moment where humour could completely disarm you both and diffuse the whole thing. On this occasion, I thought joking about divorce would do exactly that… I just got the timing completely wrong. Instead, it made things worse, and that moment ended up immortalised in a three-and-a-half-minute pop song."
The single is accompanied by a theatrical, pink-washed music video directed and edited by Ogden himself. Fans can expect more new music from Blossoms later this year as they continue to evolve their sound beyond their previous successes.
