The elusive Scottish electronic duo Boards Of Canada has broken a 13-year musical silence with the surprise release of a new track titled 'Tape 05.' The ambient piece, which surfaced without announcement on both the band's YouTube channel and that of their longtime label Warp Records, marks their first new music since the 2013 album 'Tomorrow's Harvest.'

'Tape 05' is an atmospheric composition built around a harp melody, layered with subtle, shoegaze-inspired textures. No further details about the track or whether it signals a larger project have been provided.

The release follows a cryptic, year-long trail of hints from the notoriously private duo. Earlier this month, fans began reporting the arrival of mysterious VHS tapes in the mail, bearing the band's signature hexagon-mesh logo. According to fan archives, the tapes contain audio from a defunct 1991 Christian bible school magazine advertisement.

Additionally, a website once used by the band for clues, which had long displayed error messages, was recently found active with the enigmatic phrase 'nobody home…' repeated in Morse code. Over the past decade, the duo's activity has been limited to sporadic remixes, archival releases, and a DJ mix, making 'Tape 05' a significant and unexpected return.
