Chelsea's teenage sensation Estevao has been dealt a crushing blow that could jeopardize his World Cup dreams with Brazil this summer. The 18-year-old winger suffered a season-ending hamstring injury during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Scans have confirmed the severity of the strain, ruling the Brazilian prodigy out of Chelsea's remaining fixtures this campaign. The timing couldn't be worse, with Brazil's World Cup opener against Morocco scheduled for June 13 in North America.
"He was devastated," Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior revealed. "He was crying at half-time. I'm really devastated for him."
Estevao has become a regular feature in Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad during the tournament buildup, but his participation now hangs in the balance. While sources close to the player insist he'll recover in time for the World Cup, questions remain about whether Ancelotti will risk selecting a player who may not prove his fitness before the group stages.
