Jalen Brunson ignited a fourth-quarter rally as the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 112-108 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night. Brunson finished with 34 points and 8 assists, leading the Knicks back from a 12-point deficit in the final period.
"We never lost faith," Brunson said. "They made runs, but we stayed together and found a way."
Julius Randle added 28 points and 10 rebounds, while RJ Barrett chipped in 18 points. The Knicks shot 52% from the field in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spurs 38-22.
For the Spurs, Dejounte Murray had 29 points and 11 assists, but missed a potential game-tying three-pointer with 5 seconds left. Victor Wembanyama recorded 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks in his Finals debut.
Game 2 is scheduled for Friday night in New York.
