BSWM Seeks P1.64B Budget to Boost Soil Rehabilitation Efforts

The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) is requesting a P1.64-billion budget for 2027 to strengthen its soil health improvement initiatives nationwide.

In an interview, BSWM Director Gina Nilo said the agency plans to establish 11 provincial soil laboratories next year to enhance accessibility. These labs will help farmers and local governments assess soil conditions and implement targeted rehabilitation measures.

The funding request underscores the government's commitment to sustainable agriculture. If approved, the budget will support soil testing, training, and the distribution of soil amendments to restore degraded lands.

Nilo emphasized that healthy soils are critical for food security and climate resilience.
