Caloocan Mayor Malonzo Files Lawsuit Against Rep. Asistio Over Flood Control Projects

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Malonzo has filed a lawsuit against Representative Edgar Asistio of the same city, accusing the lawmaker of irregularities in flood control projects. The legal complaint, lodged at the Manila Regional Trial Court, alleges that Asistio misused funds allocated for flood mitigation, leading to incomplete and poorly executed infrastructure works.

According to the complaint, the projects were supposed to address severe flooding in several barangays but were instead marred by questionable procurement and substandard construction. Mayor Malonzo claims that the public funds were wasted, leaving residents vulnerable to floods during heavy rains.

"The people of Caloocan deserve transparency and accountability," Malonzo stated in a press briefing. "These projects were meant to protect our communities, but instead, they have become a source of corruption."

Rep. Asistio has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit a political stunt. He asserted that the projects were implemented properly and passed government audits. The case is expected to proceed to preliminary hearings in the coming weeks.
