Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, known for his social advocacy, has offered a prayer for the swift extinguishing of the fire that has been burning at a landfill in Navotas City for days. In a statement, the bishop expressed solidarity with the affected community and called on divine intervention to end the blaze and prevent further harm to residents and the environment.
The fire, which started on Tuesday, has been challenging firefighters due to the waste pile's depth and the presence of flammable materials. No casualties have been reported, but thick smoke has been affecting nearby barangays, prompting health advisories.
Bishop David said, "We pray for the safety of all responders and for the grace of rain to help douse the flames. May this ordeal remind us of our responsibility to care for creation."
Local government units and the Bureau of Fire Protection continue their efforts to contain the fire.
