Celtic Legend James Forrest Extends Stay for Record 18th Season

James Forrest, the most decorated player in Celtic's history, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of next season. The 34-year-old winger, who has won 26 trophies with the Hoops, committed to an 18th campaign despite reduced playing time.

Forrest has made 36 appearances this season, many as a substitute, and delivered a match-changing performance in Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final victory over St Mirren. 'I've been here my full career and I've loved every minute of it,' Forrest told the club website. 'I'll just give my best to the club for however long I'll be here.'

Since his debut under Neil Lennon in 2010, Forrest has scored 110 goals in 564 appearances, finding the net in each of his 17 seasons. His trophy haul includes 13 league titles, seven Scottish Cups, and six League Cups. He was named Scotland's player of the year for the 2018-19 season.

Interim manager Martin O'Neill praised the winger's continued impact: 'He has changed games, and he has done wonderfully well. His contribution in recent weeks when he's come off the bench has been absolutely terrific.'

Forrest's longevity is remarkable given the competition. Despite the arrival of expensive wingers over the years, he has consistently outlasted them. This season, he started only seven games but remains a vital influence, as shown in the semi-final win where he provided energy and creativity when Celtic needed it most.

'I really want James to finish his career here at Celtic,' O'Neill added. 'Take sentimentality right out of it—he has proved he's worth an extra year.'
