Chelsea's Rosenior Faces Growing Pressure After Brighton Debacle

Liam Rosenior's tenure as Chelsea head coach is under intense scrutiny following a devastating 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday, with club leadership reportedly reconsidering his position.

Sources indicate that while Rosenior received public and private backing from Chelsea's hierarchy last week, no such support emerged on Wednesday. The club's leadership was present at the training ground while players had a day off, with internal discussions reportedly underway about Rosenior's future among other options.

"It was both indefensible and unacceptable," Rosenior said of his team's performance, which marked their fifth consecutive league loss without scoring—a club record not seen in 114 years.

The defeat has severely damaged Chelsea's Champions League qualification hopes, leaving them seventh in the Premier League, five points adrift of the top five with only four matches remaining. Fans turned on Rosenior during the match at Amex Stadium, and the coach publicly questioned his players' desire afterward.

Rosenior, who signed a five-and-a-half-year deal in January after moving from Chelsea's partner club Strasbourg, had previously expressed feeling "100%" supported by ownership. Just last week, influential co-owner Behdad Eghbali stated: "Of course, it's a results business, but we think he can be successful long term."

Player frustrations are also mounting, according to multiple sources close to the squad. While some players describe Rosenior as friendly and well-intentioned, others—particularly several Spanish-speaking players—have grown increasingly unconvinced by his methods.

Chelsea now face a critical FA Cup semi-final against Leeds at Wembley on Sunday, with Rosenior's immediate future potentially hanging in the balance.
