Cher Seeks Legal Guardianship of Son Elijah Amidst Renewed Legal and Health Struggles

Music icon Cher has once again petitioned for conservatorship over her son, Elijah Blue Allman, following a series of recent arrests and ongoing concerns about his well-being.

Elijah Blue Allman, 49, is the son of Cher and the late rock musician Gregg Allman. Cher initially sought conservatorship in late 2023, citing "severe mental health and substance abuse issues" that she argued left him unable to manage his finances responsibly. At the time, she expressed fears that any funds he received would be spent on drugs, jeopardizing his safety.

"The proposed conservatee is currently in custody in the State of New Hampshire in a locked psychiatric hospital in an attempt to restore him to competency to face criminal charges in two cases," stated the new court filing submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court this week.

The legal battle saw Allman objecting to the initial petition, claiming he did not need a conservator and questioning his mother's suitability for the role. The family reached a private settlement in 2024, pausing court proceedings. However, the new filing asserts that Allman's condition has "significantly deteriorated" since the 2023 petition.

Recent incidents include an arrest on March 1 for allegedly causing a disturbance at a private school, followed by another arrest two days later for reportedly breaking into a home in Windham, New Hampshire. These events have prompted Cher to renew her legal efforts.

Financial concerns remain central to the case. Allman reportedly receives an annual allowance of $120,000 from a trust. Cher has previously claimed this money is often spent on "drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation," rather than on essential needs.

This development marks another chapter in the family's private struggles, unfolding against the backdrop of Cher's recent public recognition, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys in February.
