Manchester City's commanding lead in the Women's Super League title race has taken a hit after a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Despite a flying start, City's inability to convert chances allowed Brighton to stage a comeback, leaving the door ajar for Arsenal.
Head coach Andree Jeglertz insisted he is not concerned about the slip-up. "I'm not worried. You learn a lot in these games, and I am fully sure that when we are back in training, we will be focused for Liverpool next week," Jeglertz told Sky Sports. "It is still in our hands. We will do everything we can to finish off with two wins."
However, former Scotland captain Rachel Corsie highlighted a potential shift. "A tiny feeling of doubt has opened up. We thought it was cut and dried, but that was a bit of a wobble," she said. Former Man City midfielder Izzy Christiansen added: "City were nowhere near their best, and this makes the end to the season a whole lot more interesting."
City led through Kerolin's early strike but squandered multiple chances, with Khadija Shaw also missing a clear opportunity. Brighton equalised just before half-time and seized control in the second half. Jeglertz admitted his side's efficiency was lacking. "It's about details. We created a lot of chances in the first half, and we needed to score," he said. "Brighton challenged us a lot—we need to protect our penalty box a little better."
City can still secure the title by winning their remaining two matches—Liverpool at home and West Ham away—but any further slips could allow Arsenal to capitalize. The race is far from over.
