In a recent talk at AI Codecon, Cat Wu, head of product for Claude Code and Cowork at Anthropic, declared that artificial intelligence is democratizing software development. "I feel like with Claude Code, everyone's kind of an engineer now," Wu said. "Anyone can make a prototype. Anyone can come up with an idea for an app and get something out there."

Wu envisions a future where individuals can ship new tools and customize existing products for their own personal use cases in ways that haven't been feasible before. She highlighted Cowork, Anthropic's platform for managing multiple AI agents, as a key enabler. "Cowork gives nontechnical folks the ability to manage multiple agents at the same time," she explained, noting that Anthropic's own nontechnical teams have already integrated it into their workflows.

The remarks underscore a broader trend: AI coding assistants are lowering the barrier to software creation, turning everyday users into builders.
