Congressman Eric Swalwell Issues Fiery Denial of Rape Allegations in Personal Video Apology

Congressman Eric Swalwell has released a direct video statement vehemently denying recent rape accusations while issuing a public apology to his wife for past personal failings.

In the minute-long video, Swalwell stares directly into the camera, stating, "I thought it was important you see and hear from me directly. These allegations of sexual assault are flat false. They did not happen. They have never happened."

The California representative, who is currently the frontrunner in the state's gubernatorial election, acknowledged the timing of the accusations, noting they emerged just before voters head to the polls. While denying the assault claims, Swalwell admitted he is not "perfect or a saint" and has made "mistakes in judgment" in his past.

"Those mistakes are between me and my wife. And to her, I apologize deeply for putting her in this position," Swalwell stated in the emotional video.

The congressman also addressed supporters who might be questioning his character, saying, "I think you know who I am."

The allegations stem from a former staffer who spoke anonymously to CNN, claiming she blacked out during an evening at a bar with Swalwell in 2024. The accuser reported remembering a moment when Swalwell was on top of her, and despite her attempts to push him away and tell him to stop, he allegedly continued.

In response to the controversy, prominent Democratic figures Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff have called for Swalwell to withdraw from the governor's race. The congressman has canceled a scheduled town hall event while maintaining his complete denial of the accusations.
