Dave Grohl Declares Alice in Chains His New Favorite Band: 'They Should Have Been 35 Years Ago'

Dave Grohl has revealed a newfound appreciation for Alice in Chains, calling the grunge icons his "favourite band now."

The Foo Fighters frontman opened up about his recent rediscovery during an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, where he discussed the band's new album 'Your Favorite Toy.' While talking about the standout vocalists of the grunge era—including Kurt Cobain and Chris Cornell—Lowe brought up Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley, prompting Grohl's enthusiastic confession.

"Oh my God, dude, here's the best thing about driving around with my daughters Violet and Harper in a car: I have this newfound love of Alice in Chains," Grohl said. "It's back. They're like my favourite band now. They should have been 35 years ago, but now I'm like, 'Wait, where was I on that one?'"

Grohl added that the band's music has become deeply personal to him. "Every song you hear becomes like a strand in your DNA, those lyrics and those songs become a part of you. There's a huge connectivity in the energy of music just as there is in the connectivity in the energy of everything."

The comments come as Foo Fighters continue to promote 'Your Favorite Toy,' which dropped on April 24. The band recently unveiled a zombie apocalypse-themed video for 'Spit Shine,' directed by Grohl, and performed 'Caught in the Echo' and 'Child Actor' live for the first time on Saturday Night Live UK.
