A Brazilian company specializing in DDoS protection has been uncovered as the mastermind behind a series of large-scale distributed denial-of-service attacks. According to investigators, the firm exploited a security breach to create a botnet, targeting internet service providers across the country.
The scheme involved hijacking TP-Link routers and deploying the infamous Mirai malware, a potent tool often used in IoT-based botnets. The botnet was then used to launch DDoS attacks, ironically against the very clients the firm was supposed to defend.
Authorities have not yet named the company but confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. The case highlights the growing threat of insider attacks in the cybersecurity industry.
