Deadly Clash in Negros Occidental Claims 19 Alleged NPA Rebels

A violent confrontation between government forces and alleged members of the New People's Army (NPA) in Negros Occidental has resulted in significant casualties, according to military reports.

Nineteen individuals suspected of being NPA rebels were killed during the intense firefight, which erupted in a remote area of the province. The military operation was conducted based on intelligence regarding rebel activities in the region.

Authorities reported that the clash involved a substantial exchange of gunfire, with government troops engaging the alleged insurgents for several hours. The military stated that no casualties were sustained among their personnel during the engagement.

"This operation demonstrates our commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region," a military spokesperson stated. "We will continue to pursue those who threaten the safety of our communities."

The NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has been engaged in one of Asia's longest-running insurgencies, with conflicts primarily concentrated in rural areas. This latest incident represents one of the deadliest clashes reported in recent months.

Local officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. The area where the clash occurred remains under military surveillance as cleanup and investigation operations continue.
