Deadly Russian Strikes Hit Ukraine, Killing Five and Damaging Port Vessel

Russian attacks across Ukraine have left at least five people dead and a cargo ship damaged in a southern port, officials reported on Wednesday. The strikes, which targeted residential areas and key infrastructure, underscore the ongoing violence as the war enters its third year.

In the southern city of Mykolaiv, two people were killed and several others wounded when a Russian missile struck a residential building. Emergency crews worked through the night to search for survivors under the rubble.

Meanwhile, in the port of Odesa, a foreign-flagged cargo vessel was damaged by a Russian drone strike. The ship, which was loading grain, suffered significant structural damage but remained afloat. No injuries were reported among the crew.

"This is a deliberate attempt to disrupt our grain exports and threaten global food security," said a Ukrainian military spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity.

In the Kharkiv region, a series of artillery and rocket attacks killed three civilians and destroyed several homes. Local authorities reported that a school and a hospital were also damaged in the shelling.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted several Russian missiles and drones overnight, but debris from intercepted weapons caused fires and additional damage in some areas.

Elsewhere, Ukrainian strikes on Russian-controlled territory injured at least six people. In the Vologda region, two people were wounded when a Ukrainian drone hit an industrial facility. In occupied Crimea, four people were injured in an attack on a military airfield.

The attacks come as both sides continue to exchange fire along the frontlines, with no signs of de-escalation. International mediators have called for renewed peace talks, but neither Kiev nor Moscow has shown willingness to compromise.
