Debate Over U.S.-Israel Alliance: Strategic Asset or Liability?

In a recent episode of "The Ezra Klein Show," Matt Duss, executive vice president at the Center for International Policy, argued that the U.S.-Israel alliance may be doing more harm than good. He challenged the notion that the relationship yields net strategic benefits for the United States.

Duss questioned the conventional wisdom in Washington that Israel is a vital strategic partner, particularly in intelligence and technology. While acknowledging the value of democratic allies, he contended that Israel's current actions are "not remotely legitimate" and that the alliance's costs—strategic, ethical, moral, and diplomatic—outweigh any advantages for the U.S.

"When I look at the costs and benefits, both strategically, ethically, morally, politically, diplomatically to the U.S.-Israel relationship, I don't think it works out in the U.S.'s favor," Duss said. The interview explores whether the alliance remains a strategic asset or has become a liability.
