DICT pushes for budget hike to strengthen eGovPH platform

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is asking for more funding to improve the infrastructure of the government's mobile services app, eGovPH, following service interruptions that affected users last week.

According to DICT Undersecretary David Almirol Jr., the agency plans to expand server capacity and cloud resources to handle increasing traffic. The move comes after eGovPH experienced login issues and failed transactions earlier this month, which the DICT attributed to heavy system load rather than a security breach.

"The goal is simple: make government services easier for Filipinos," Almirol said in a statement.

The DICT is upgrading servers and increasing cloud capacity to support higher volumes of concurrent users. Almirol added that government agencies are now expected to manage their own systems while remaining connected through the eGovPH platform, a shift aimed at reducing bottlenecks and preventing system-wide outages.

Originally designed for a handful of services, eGovPH has evolved into a one-stop platform for accessing government-issued IDs, permits, documents, and other transactions. About 1,000 government systems are now linked to the app, which has surpassed 40 million downloads.

The proposed funding increase will support these upgrades as demand for digital government services continues to grow.
